You might be asking yourself: “What even is a buyer persona?”
So let’s define it briefly. The buyer persona is a clear image in your mind of the dream clients you want to work with. Someone who has a problem, and your product or service is the right solution for the problem.
According to HubSpot, a “buyer persona is a semi-fictional representation of your ideal customer based on market research and real data about your existing customers.”
Maybe you're asking, "How does this help me improve my conversion rate?”
Well, the better you know your target audience and their pain points, the better you can put the right product or service in front of their eyes.
As my mentor, Dan Lok, says, “Serving the right MARKET trumps all factors.”
To put this into perspective, how high are your chances of selling the most delicious steak you can think of to a “die-hard” vegetarian? Probably not very high, right?
Well, it’s the “best” product for the “worst” possible prospect. The buyer persona doesn’t match your product.
You and your clients would probably be happier if you sell them a nice, fresh salad.
I know, it’s a bit far-fetched, but do you get my point?

Ask yourself, “Who do I want to work with?”

Ask yourself these questions:
Who are my dream clients?
What’s their gender?
What are they passionate about?
What are their goals, dreams, and desires?
How old are they?
What do they fear the most?
What makes them sad?
What are their interests?
What are their biggest challenges?
To quote Russel Brunson, “If you don’t know the who, it will be hard to find out where your perfect client can be found.”
So definitely make sure you know who you want to target before continuing.
Now since you know who your dream clients are, you need to know where to find them.
You want to know exactly where they are. The where includes their location online and offline. For example, which social media platforms do they prefer? This is important because each social media platform is different.
The audience on LinkedIn reacts differently to your message than the audience on Facebook. The audience is unique with each platform. So the message needs to be tailored for each platform specifically.
Also, you want to know where they are offline. Why? Maybe you want to target only people in a higher income bracket.
When you know the zip code they “hang around” at, it’s way easier to narrow down a target audience with a certain income.
Facebook Insights makes it all possible. These could be important questions helping you create a conversion rate boosting avatar:
Are they on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or LinkedIn?
What Facebook groups are they in?
What kind of influencers do they follow?
What events do they visit?
Where do they spend their spare time?
Do they watch movies in the cinema or on Netflix?
At this point, your buyer persona already gives you a much clearer vision of your dream client. But let’s not stop there.
When you know who your dream clients are and where to find them, it’s time for the bait.
You might be wondering, “What’s the bait?”
The bait could be something like a webinar, PDF, blog post, YouTube video, or book with a very specific title. Only your dream clients would be attracted to it. To improve your conversion rate, it MUST contain real valuable information for your prospect.
A quick example: Let’s pretend you’re the owner of a gym that specializes in preparing determined bodybuilders who are competing in contests.
You want more clients for your gym, so you write a blog post called “12 Weeks to a Competition Body Training Plan”. It includes valuable information for your prospects.
Also, the title is so specific that it most likely attracts only people who want to train for a bodybuilding competition. These are the unique dream clients you’re looking for!
But on the other hand, the headline would repel people that “just want to lose some weight”—the “not-so-perfect” clients. Do you see the power of the bait?
This way you can easily filter the marketplace and generate better leads. And better leads result in a higher conversion rate.
So how do you create your bait?
These are some questions that’ll help you:
What do they want?
How do they consume content?
What specific words do they use?
What are their challenges and pain points?
What language do I need to use? Formal or casual?
Are there some terms only my dream clients would know?
How could I repel my “bad” clients?
Finally, you know who your dream clients are, where to find them, and how to attract them.
Now it’s time to think about the ultimate result you want to give them. Where do you want them to be? What’s the highest peak of satisfaction you could lead them to?
Leave the price aside. Imagine your clients could pay you anything to get them to their desired result.
It’s important to have some kind of best outcome for your dream clients. It makes your marketing message clear and concise.
To give you an example: You are a gym owner (yes again) preparing determined bodybuilders for contests. Your ultimate goal for your best clients is to prepare them in two years to win Mr. Olympia (one of the most popular bodybuilding contests).
And you know the best way to achieve this goal is to get them trained by your top coaches six days a week. You also provide them with a nutrition plan.
And on top of that, you introduce them to sponsors and help them build up a social media presence. You give them the full package. You know that this is the best way you can serve your dream client.
It’s the “pinnacle” where you and your client are the happiest. Once you know that, it will be way easier to tailor the perfect message for your dream clients.
A good bait will increase your conversion rate dramatically!

Go on Google and search for a male and female name you like. It could be Peter or Lisa. Whatever you like.
Put in the information you found out, such as their hobbies or interests.
Search a while until you find a male and female picture you resonate with the most.
Print them out and combine the pictures with all the data you’ve researched. Done.
Now you have a clear idea of your male and female buyer persona. It’s much easier for your brain to have a “real” person in mind and not just some data-driven information. Do you see what I mean?
It’s quite amazing how your perspective changes when you have a physical picture of your ideal customer—instead of a hazy, half-formed image in your head, right?
